Mohammed Siraj’s attitude came under criticism following his spat with Travis Head during the India-Australia second Test in Adelaide.
Former coach Ravi Shastri has defended India bowler Mohammed Siraj in the face of harsh criticism about his attitude. During the second Test in Adelaide, Siraj and Australia batsman Travis Head got into a verbal altercation. Shastri, who coached Siraj to reach his potential, has now declared that he wants his fast bowlers to possess same fervor. ‘Give it back as good as you got’ should be the guiding principle, according to Shastri, who developed an aggressive strategy for Team India with then-captain Virat Kohli.
Travis Head hit a game-changing 140 in the second Test, smashing Siraj and the rest of the Indian bowlers. When Siraj eventually removed his head,
Both players received a demerit point, and the ICC penalized the bowler 20% of his match earnings.
Shastri has, nonetheless, offered Siraj support.
“After being struck for a six, I wouldn’t have anticipated anything different from a quick bowler. Siraj was venting his frustrations. That’s the temperament of the quick bowler. That’s how you want it to be. Giving it back as well as you receive was my guiding principle when I was playing. And when I was coaching India in Australia, I would say just that to my guys. “Don’t hold back at all,” Shastri said in his CODE Sports blog.
“Avoid going back even a single step. After then, it became the team’s guiding principle, and every player on the team—from Rishabh Pant to Virat Kohli—was ready to return it to the Australians,” Shastri continued.
Shastri said that he is certain Siraj and Head are “mature individuals” who won’t allow the situation to turn into a larger dispute.
