Following their 2-1 League Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City is dealing with an increasingly severe injury issue. The most recent additions to their already long list of injured players are winger Savinho and defender Manuel Akanji. Akanji was ruled out immediately before kickoff because of a muscle problem, while Savinho was taken out on a stretcher in the 62nd minute with what seemed to be an ankle injury. Due to this, City boss Pep Guardiola has just 13 healthy players available for Saturday’s crucial Premier League matchup against Bournemouth.
In addition to recent absences Oscar Bobb, Jeremy Doku, and Jack Grealish, Guardiola expressed his concern about the physical toll the season has had on his team, which already includes important players like Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, and Kyle Walker.
“We are having a lot of trouble since we only have 13 guys available. We’ll see how they bounce back when the players that play finish most of them with issues. We have never had this many injuries in nine years, therefore I think we are in trouble,” Guardiola told reporters.
“The players advance more collectively than before, and we’ll want to do that this week during this brief recuperation period. He stated, “Hopefully, Savinho is not in danger, but we’ll see.
City is still one point ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League, despite their fragile situation. But with important games coming up, it’s unclear if they’ll be able to continue defending their championship with so many regulars missing.
This is a first for Guardiola, who has had nine seasons with comparatively few long-term injuries. “We have never had this many injuries in nine years,” he said.
