New Zealand Test captain Tom Latham has joined Warwickshire foreign roster for the 2025 campaign. Everyone anticipates that Latham will play a complete season across formats for the Bears since New Zealand’s calendar has little overlap with the English summer. They might still make it to the World Test Championship final, which will take place at Lord’s in June, and they will visit Zimbabwe in July and August.
After Chris Benjamin and Will Rhodes left, and Michael Burgess abruptly retired, Warwickshire, which placed seventh in Division One of the Championship in 2024, has been trying to bolster its batting options.
Behind the scenes, we’ve been trying to find a player with experience and skill who can bolster our top order. It’s a true joy to have signed Tom for the 2025 season, since he perfectly fits the bill,” stated Gavin Larsen, the performance director for Warwickshire.
“I’m happy he picked Warwickshire because he’s a great player and one of the best hitters in international cricket. Next season’s domestic cricket schedule presents few conflicts for the New Zealand squad. A player of Tom’s caliber and expertise agreeing to join and be available for the whole season is uncommon in today’s cricket scene.
Larsen also mentioned that Latham, who has 26 T20 international caps, will play for the Birmingham Bears in the Blast.
“He’s known more for his red-ball career, but Tom has played more than 100 T20s, averaging 30 and with a strike rate of 131,” Larsen stated. He is another fantastic choice for our Blast campaign; he is a very intelligent T20 player with a wide variety of strokes.
Additionally, he will contribute leadership and experience to our team. His influence on our hitting lineup, especially on our younger players, will be priceless.
After spells with Kent, Durham, and Surrey, Latham will join Warwickshire his fourth county. He is presently playing for New Zealand at the beginning of their three-match Test series against England.
“I’ve performed at Edgbaston previously, so I am aware of how devoted the supporters are to the club there.
“Taking the family to Birmingham and spending some time there to see the city would also be enjoyable. Nothing would make me happier than to assist the Bears in raising a trophy. I’m excited about the entire experience.
