Guard De’Anthony Melton of the Golden State Warriors had a difficult stretch of the previous year. Melton struggled with a back issue during his second season with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Melton’s back problems returned after just a few Warriors preseason games.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports that Melton is experiencing soreness in his mid-back. He was therefore unable to play in Golden State’s Tuesday night matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The narrative of Melton’s two-year tenure with the Sixers was told in back editions. Following his 2022 trade from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Philadelphia 76ers, Melton struggled with back issues all season long. Luckily, they weren’t serious enough to prevent him from playing.
Melton played in 77 games during the regular season in his first Sixers season. He played 11 games in the playoffs, averaging 25 minutes per game. Melton was set up for a big role in the Sixers backcourt last season, but his role suffered at the end of the campaign due to his unavailability.
Last year, he made just 38 appearances in games. During that time, Melton averaged a career-high 11 points and two steals per game, but by the time the playoffs arrived, Melton had lost his spot on the squad. Melton appeared in just one game for the Sixers during their first-round matchup with the New York Knicks.
Melton was in a contract year, therefore his inability to recover from injuries reduced his market value. he accepted a prove-it deal from the Warriors rather than receiving a multi-year commitment from the Sixers or any other franchise. Before he becomes a free agent once more, he will supposedly make $12 million the next season.
