According to a report by RevSportz, Virat Kohli will participate in County Cricket as part of his preparations for the Test series against England after putting up poor batting performances during the just finished Border-Gavaskar series. This will only occur if the tournament eliminates the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from the 2019 IPL playoffs.
This story follows calls from a number of former Indian cricket players for the top batsman to play domestic cricket in order to improve his Test-match form. Since Rohit also needs to significantly improve his form in the longest format, head coach Gautam Gambhir even mentioned that he should play domestic cricket in addition to Virat.
Kohli will have around 14 days to play county cricket and adjust to the English environment.
Kohli is aware that it will be difficult to prepare for the unpredictable circumstances in England. If he doesn’t take decisive action to enhance his form, the Indian batsman, who has suffered in the last few Test series in England, may also suffer on the forthcoming visit.
With a century in the opening Test match in Perth, Kohli enjoyed an outstanding start to the Border-Gavaskar series. But in the very following game, his form declined, and he didn’t do any better in the next three Test matches either.
A stay in county cricket might prove to be quite beneficial for the 36-year-old as he looks to move past his performances during the Australia trip. Kohli would be able to hone his abilities and rebuild his confidence by spending time in English conditions.
