The FA Cup final between United and Manchester City next weekend will determine whether or not United makes it to Europe the following season.

According to Erik ten Hag, Manchester United has to “do everything” to win the FA Cup and honor the devotion of their “best fans in the world” after having the worst Premier League season ever. On Sunday, the last day of the season, United defeated Brighton 2-0, although the victory only secured eighth place, their lowest finish since they finished 13th in 1990 under renowned manager Alex Ferguson. The FA Cup final between United and Manchester City next weekend will determine whether or not United makes it to Europe the following season. And following a difficult season at Old Trafford, the outcome at Wembley may have a significant impact on the Dutchman’s employment status.
United will be more motivated to attempt to prevent City, their local rivals, from winning another domestic double after Pep Guardiola’s team achieved a remarkable four consecutive English titles on Sunday.
Even still, the disappointment of a league season in which the 20-time league winners finished with a negative goal differential and 14 losses will not be forgotten, even if United wins the FA Cup.
Ten Hag, the manager of United, praised the supporters for their support after Diogo Dalot and substitute Rasmus Hojlund secured a defeat in Roberto De Zerbi’s final game as Brighton manager.
“I have never had this experience when you have a season like us, which is by far not good enough, that the supporters are with us.”
“They are with us in the bad season and in bad times they are there,” the 54-year-old continued. I believe kids also understand why these difficult times exist.
“But we have to pay them back and we have to do everything to give them a trophy next week — but also for the future, we have to perform better.”
