Mumbai’s offspinning all-rounder Tanush Kotian will go to Australia to play for the Indian men’s side in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Following the conclusion of the third Test match in Brisbane, Ravichandran Ashwin declared his retirement from international cricket, which prompted the move.
Currently in Ahmedabad, Kotian will return to Mumbai on Tuesday before boarding an aircraft to Melbourne. He probably won’t have any problems getting a visa because he was only a member of the India A team that visited Australia.

In 33 first-class appearances, Kotian has amassed 1525 runs at an average of 41.21 and taken 101 wickets at an average of 25.70. In Mumbai’s 2023–24 Ranji Trophy-winning campaign, he collected 29 wickets at 16.96 and scored 502 runs at an average of 41.83, earning him the Player of the Tournament title.
The BCCI Medical Staff deemed the experienced bowler unsuitable for selection for the last two Test matches of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, thus delaying Mohammed Shami’s eagerly anticipated comeback to the national team.
Even though Shami had returned to playing competitive cricket, Cricbuzz had earlier disclosed that the NCA had not approved him.
The Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh in November marked the beginning of the 34-year-old’s recuperation. After bowling 43 overs in the match without seeming to have any problems, Shami participated in every Bengal match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy that followed. In the midst of this, Shami and the BCCI Medical Team were closely collaborating to track the pacer’s development in anticipation of a potential participation in the Test team in Australia. But given the recent edema, it is sense that Shami will require additional time to finish his rehabilitation.
His participation in the competition would now be entirely dependent on how well he recovers from his earlier precautionary rest for Bengal’s opening Vijay Hazare Trophy match.
