Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan acknowledged and appreciated Suryakumar’s leadership abilities. But Suryakumar’s ambition extends beyond leading the India T20I squad.
Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India, said he prefers to think of himself as a leader rather than a captain. His leadership abilities were evident during the opening Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka. After Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, Sri Lanka’s opening pair, wrecked havoc in Pallekele, the 214-run total began to seem easy picking for the home team to chase. After scoring 84 runs in the ninth over, Sri Lanka appeared determined to sabotage the start of Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar’s careers.
There were just five reliable bowlers on the Indian team, so Suryakumar had few choices. In an attempt to make a breakthrough, he pulled Arshdeep Singh back into the fray in the ninth over.
Mendis was delivered and taken out of the crease by the youthful left-armer. Even after suffering a loss, Sri Lanka withdrew its aggressive strategy.
However, Suryakumar’s introduction of Axar Patel in the 15th over caused the Lankans to back off. As the pitch began to change, Axar worked his magic to remove Kusal Perera and set-batter Nissanka, giving the hosts no chance to win.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan acknowledged and appreciated Suryakumar’s leadership abilities. But Suryakumar’s ambition extends beyond leading the India T20I squad.
“My desire is to be a leader rather than a captain. And that’s it. “It was encouraging to see such strong support both here and across the nation,” Suryakumar stated in a video that BCCI had uploaded on X.
The moment Suryakumar gave the ball to Riyan Parag was one of the game’s major highlights. The youthful player who did not do well with the bat yet made important contributions with the ball.
In his 1.2 overs, he took three wickets at a cost of just five runs, driving out the spinning track and picking up the delivery places.
The 33-year-old explained what transpired before he gave the ball to Parag at the pivotal moment in the match.
“I’ve seen Riyan Parag bowl in the IPL and in the nets, so this guy may be great. Suryakumar said, “And I also mentioned on the PC that he had an X-factor.
India then held Sri Lanka to 170, effectively defending their total. India gained an insurmountable lead in the second Twenty20 International on Sunday after winning the series 1-0.
