In the 2024 Indian Premier League, opener Sunil Narine of the Kolkata Knight Riders will write history. On Tuesday, he became a member of an exclusive group that includes former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson and seasoned batsman Rohit Sharma. On matchday 31 of the IPL 2024, West Indies all-rounder Narine broke his lengthy wait for a T20 century at the Eden Gardens by crushing the formidable bowling attack of the Rajasthan Royals.
It was Narine’s first T20 century in his 504th game. The opener for Kolkata reached his fast century in just 49 deliveries. Narine became the third player in IPL history to hit a century and claim a hat-trick as he entered a privileged club during the high-scoring match between RR and KKR. During the 2013 IPL, Narine achieved a hat-trick. In the match against the Punjab Kings in Mohali, the KKR all-rounder dismissed David Hussey, Azhar Mahmood, and Gurkeerat Singh to accomplish the feat.

In Ahmedabad, Watson defeated Moises Henriques, Karn Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan to complete his hat-trick. Additionally, Watson has four IPL hundreds to his credit. In the 2018 IPL final, Watson became the second batter to get a century. The third hitter in the IPL history to record a century and a hat-trick is Rohit Sharma, the captain of India. In the 2009 IPL, the former MI captain scored a hat-trick against Mumbai. In order to capture a hat-trick against MI, Rohit outwitted MI’s Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh on successive deliveries.
Sunil Narine in league of his own
Speaking about the high-stakes match between RR and KKR, Narine opened the proceedings by hitting six sixes and thirteen fours, which allowed Shreyas Iyer and company to score 223/6 in 20 overs. With 109 from 56 balls, Narine scored the highest T20 score of his career. The KKR batsman achieved the team’s second-fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier League. After Brendon McCullum and Venkatesh Iyer, Narine is the third hitter for KKR to record an IPL century. In the lucrative competition, the 35-year-old is also the only player to have taken a fifer and scored a century.
