Pakistan’s miserable T20 World Cup campaign came to an end on Friday after the squad was unable to advance to the Super 8 round of the competition. After weather caused the United States of America’s match versus Ireland to be postponed, Pakistan was eliminated. The United States of America received a point, which was sufficient to advance them to the Super 8 round on their tournament debut. Former bowler Shoaib Akhtar voiced his unhappiness with the result after Pakistan’s shocking elimination.
Prior to their last group stage match against the Irish, Pakistan needed Ireland to defeat the USA.
A draw, though, limits them to just four points. With five points from four games, USA concluded their group league campaign and advanced to the next round, where they will play India from Group A.
In a tight match on Sunday in New York, Pakistan lost to India and was unable to reach their aim of 120. Prior to that, they lost a shocking Super Over match to USA in their Dallas opener.
Pakistan’s hopes of making it to the Super Eight were already out of their hands following their consecutive losses. They were once again dependent on other outcomes going their way.
Unfortunately, their chances of moving on to the next round were dashed by the recent floods and severe rain in Fort Lauderdale.
The beginning point of the team’s comeback in the game was the morale-boosting T20 series victory over Bangladesh right before the showpiece. The USA started the tournament with a convincing win over Canada, chasing nearly 200 runs, and then shocked Pakistan in one of the greatest upsets of the T20 World Cup. They then gave formidable title contenders India a run for their money.
Eight cricketers of Indian descent make up the US team; the majority are temporarily employed by companies on H1-B visas, which permit them to hire foreign workers. The team is attempting to bring cricket back 180 years after the nation hosted the first-ever international cricket match between the USA and Canada at the St George’s Cricket Club in New York in 1844, 33 years before England and Australia played in their first Test match.
