NEW DELHI: On Friday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in a historic victory led by Shashank Singh, who hit 68 runs off only 28 balls.
With eight wickets and eight balls remaining, Punjab pulled off an incredible robbery and made history by recording the most successful T20 chase in history, thanks to a stroke from Shashank off Ramandeep Singh.
In his knock, Shashan scored eight sixes and two fours. Following the game, the Punjab Kings’ official X Twitter shared a video of the batsman striking the famous Shah Rukh Khan stance as they celebrated their triumph.
“Sssshhhh.. Shaaaaashaaaaa… Shashankkkkkk!” is the title for the video, in which Shashank spreads his arms in imitation of the Bollywood actor who shares ownership of Kolkata Knight Riders.
As “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” the hit song by Shah Rukh Khan, plays in the background, Shashank exclaims, “Thank You Eden Gardens.”
It was pure slaughter from Punjab while pursuing. They ensured their place in history with a brilliant century from Jonny Bairstow and two incredible fifties from Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh.
With Bairstow and Prabhsimran taking the Powerplay by storm, the Punjab run chase got off to an incredible start. They put up 93 runs in their first partnership before Prabhsimran was run out, but he still caused havoc with a blistering 54 off only 20 balls.
Bairstow maintained the pace and prevented the asking rate from becoming unaffordable. In order to keep them in the hunt, Rilee Rossouw also made a charming brief appearance. Bairstow continued to fire from one end and scored a remarkable ton with great assistance from Shashank.
Amazing in their forcefulness, Bairstow amassed 108 off only 48 balls without losing, while Shashank hammered 68 off just 28 balls to lead their team to a historic victory.
Every bowler for KKR was dismantled and vanished like anything. The only thing that went well was Sunil Narine. He took a wicket, gave up just 24 runs after his fantastic fifty, and also forced a run out.
Kolkata reached the highest-ever T20 score at Eden Gardens earlier in the match. Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer had respectable cameos towards the finish, while Sunil Narine and Phil Salt scored a couple of solid fifties.
For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh claimed two wickets, while Rahul Chahar and Sam Curran both contributed one.
