In the pink-ball warm-up match at the Manuka Oval on Sunday, India bowled out the Australian Prime Minister’s XI for 240 in 43.2 overs, with Harshit Rana picking 4-44.
India decided to bowl first in a shortened 50-overs-a-side encounter after rain ruined the first day of their two-day pink-ball tour match. With his impressive 90-ball century, young batsman Sam Konstas increased the pressure on Australia’s struggling hitter Marnus Labuschagne and rookie opener Nathan McSweeney, who didn’t do much in his Perth debut.
However, India managed to keep PM’s XI 10 runs below 250 thanks to Rana’s four wickets in six deliveries. The PM XI’s scoreboard showed 22/2 after 5.5 overs, with opener Matthew Renshaw falling early after nicking off to second slip off Mohammed Siraj for just five, and Jayden Goodwin throwing an edge behind to keeper off Akash Deep.
However, with his copybook-style strokeplay, Konstas appeared reliable, particularly when he struck through the V and attacked Indian bowlers. He also produced a fantastic reverse ramp off Akash Deep while attempting a boundary.
He built up a stand of 109 with Jack Clayton (40) and smashed 107 off 97 balls, including 14 fours and a six, at a strike-rate of 110.3. However, by dismissing Clayton, Ollie Davies, Jack Edwards, and Sam Harper from the PM’s XI at 138/7, Rana helped India regain the match.
Hanno Jacobs proved to be Konstas’s capable companion, as the two stitched an eighth-wicket stand of 67.
