Andy Flower, the head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), recently gave an update on Virat Kohli’s chances of rejoining the team as captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). The RCB is looking for a new manager after Faf du Plessis left the team after the 17th season. However, following the big auction, there aren’t many possibilities for the skipper post.
Because of his vast leadership experience, both with RCB and internationally, Kohli, who has previously led the team, is still a strong contender for the position. Despite having some leadership experience, observers currently do not consider Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rajat Patidar, and Krunal Pandya to be suitable candidates for the captaincy.

RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Babat, stated in an interview with Sports Tak that the team has not yet chosen its skipper for the next campaign. Additionally, Andy Flower reaffirmed that no talks about a possible captaincy comeback had been held with Kohli. “You’ll have to wait for the final decision,” Flower said in response to a question concerning the leadership choice. We are embarking on a three-year adventure and entering a new chapter, and I think the excitement will only increase as we move forward,” he added.
“That communication hasn’t happened yet, but you can ask me as often as you like,” he said.
This comment emphasizes how unclear the situation is. Beginning in 2011, Kohli’s tenure as RCB’s captain was permanent in 2013.
Before resigning following the 2021 season, he guided the club to the 2016 championship game and has been an important member of the squad ever since.
