The request has been made for Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya to confer the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award on Ravichandran Ashwin.

Using his official social media account, Congress MP Vijay Vasanth encouraged Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, to present the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award to former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Shortly after Wednesday’s draw in the Brisbane Test, India’s renowned off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his intention to retire from international cricket. He is genuinely worthy of this honor because of his outstanding services to Indian cricket and his outstanding on-field accomplishments,” Vijay Vasanth said in a post on X.
Ashwin made his announcement at the post-match news conference earlier on Wednesday, joining India’s captain Rohit Sharma. His emotional outburst and Virat Kohli’s embrace sparked speculation that he would retire.
Ashwin participated in 106 Test matches, scoring 3,503 runs and claiming an incredible 537 wickets, including 37 five-wicket hauls. His impact on Indian cricket goes much beyond these striking figures.
He is the second-highest wicket-taker for India, after Anil Kumble (619), and the seventh-highest in Test cricket history. In addition, he has taken the second-highest number of five wickets in Test matches, after the legendary Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka (67).
Ashwin participated in 181 limited-overs cricket matches and claimed 228 wickets. He had an appearance in 116 One-Day Internationals, scoring 707 runs and taking 156 wickets with best figures of 4/25. He scored 184 runs and claimed 72 wickets in 65 Twenty20 Internationals, with his best statistics being 4/8.
Ashwin is India’s second-highest wicket-taker with 765 international wickets across all forms, behind Kumble’s 953. He also played for India in the 2013 Champions Trophy and the 2011 World Cup.
With his retirement, Ashwin brings an extraordinary period to a close and leaves a legacy that will motivate generations to come.
