The Rajasthan Royals (RR) is set to name former India batter and coach Rahul Dravid as its head coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

In 2024, RR lacked a head coach specifically for the team. As the director of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara was assisted by Trevor Penny and Shane Bond. RR lost the IPL 2024 semifinal match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In addition to playing for the Royals from 2011 to 2013, Dravid was a trainer from 2014 till he was named head coach of India U-19 and India A.
He was named Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru following his time with the youth teams.
After leading India to victory in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, Dravid assumed the position of head coach in 2021 and remained in that capacity till the conclusion of his contract.
In his capacity as coach, Dravid also led the group to the World Test Championship final in June 2023 and the ODI World Cup final in November 2023.
After his first two-year tenure as India’s head coach expired at the end of the ODI World Cup last year, Dravid was done, but he decided to stay after receiving a call from Rohit Sharma.
Vikram Rathour (batting) and Paras Mhambrey (bowling), Dravid’s Indian team assistants, are also in talks with a few franchises regarding possible IPL roles.
