Rahul Dravid just resigned as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team after leading his team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
According to reports, batting icon Rahul Dravid is in discussions to take over as head coach of the Rajasthan Royals when he returns to the Indian Premier League. With the 2024 T20 World Cup, Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team came to an end.
The announcement may occur shortly.
According to a source cited by The Times of India, “RR and Dravid are in talks, and an announcement in this regard is around the corner.”
Dravid would work with the former IPL winners RR again in the future. Having succeeded the late Shane Warne as captain, he was their second captain.
When Dravid took over as captain of the RR in 2012, he was 39 years old. He captained the team in 40 games, 23 of which the team won. Later, in 2014 and 2015, he mentored them before taking on the role of coach for India’s U-19 and “A” teams.
Before Dravid became the head of cricket operations at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, he led India to victory in the 2018 U-19 World Cup. After that, in 2021, he took over as head coach of the men’s team from Ravi Shastri, and he ended his tenure with a winning performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The article went on to say that RR’s Director of High Performance, Zubin Bharucha, is now supporting the coaches of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Bharucha was cited as stating, “I’m helping Sri Lanka Cricket coaches in how they are setting up practice – from the academy to the international players.”
The future of Sri Lankan icon Kumar Sangakkara, who serves as RR’s current director of cricket, remains unclear, though.
For six white-ball matches—three Twenty20 Internationals and as many One-Day Internationals—the Indian team has traveled to Sri Lanka. The contests will begin later this week. It will be Gautam Gambhir’s first international duty as the recently appointed head coach.
