IPL 2025: One of the Punjab Kings’ most costly acquisitions, Yuzvendra Chahal, has joined the team’s preseason practice. Punjab Kings purchased Chahal for an enormous sum after the Rajasthan Royals released him prior to last year’s mega-auction.
The team spotted Chahal using the microphone, which sparked some amusing discussions. After they saw him at a training session, he sent a message to head coach Ricky Ponting. He asked whether the squad was looking for an opener and expressed his willingness to try out for that role.

In an interview on a podcast, Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting first stated that Yuzvendra Chahal was one of three Indian players he was seeking. The Punjab-based team was prepared to spend a fortune for Chahal and had the largest purse at the mega-auction.
I was interested in bringing in three guys. Arshdeep Singh has been with Punjab Kings for three or four years. Additionally, I wanted to bring in a captain with a great deal of success with whom I had previously worked. Thus, we pursued Shreyas Iyer. I intended to invite Yuzi as well.
As the auction progressed, we had to make some adjustments to ensure that we had a very strong squad. I’m working to change things, start again, and surround myself with the proper people. However, he said, “these three were non-negotiable.”
Chahal also attended the summit match between RJ Mahvash and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Recently, he filed for divorce from his wife, Dhanashree Varma.
During the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Yuzvendra Chahal was purchased by Punjab Kings for an astounding Rs 18 crore and was the subject of a fierce bidding war. He also overtook Wanindu Hasaranga, whom RCB purchased for an incredible Rs 10.75 crore at the 2022 IPL auction, to become the most costly spinner in the history of the competition.
