The Champions League ranks PSG 25th out of 36 teams, with just four points and three losses in five games.
They will undoubtedly need to win at least two of their last three games to escape elimination, as they are now one slot and two points outside of the qualifying spots for the knockout phase play-offs in February.
Luis Enrique is unavoidably under fire because of his precarious situation, and there are questions about his strategies. On Thursday, the sports newspaper L’Equipe featured a headline that read, “The method without any effect.”
Specifically, his tendency to play without a center-forward after Goncalo Ramos was injured and Kylian Mbappe left.
After Mbappe left, Randal Kolo Muani, a high-profile acquisition who was supposed to take over, has turned into an outsider.
Kolo Muani, a regular for France, has only started twice for PSG this season and did not enter the game as a substitute against Bayern.
However, in five Champions League games, Paris has only managed three goals, including an own goal.
Being the PSG coach is an honor. “I put more pressure on myself than any outside force,” Luis Enrique said in Munich.
“I’m not here only to kill time. Winning titles is my goal, and I want to accomplish it now, not later.
Before visiting struggling Nantes this weekend, PSG is on track to do that domestically as they are undefeated in Ligue 1 and six points ahead of their closest rivals, Monaco.
Bradley Barcola is their top scorer with ten goals, and they average three goals per game at home. In their last 41 Ligue 1 games, they have only suffered one defeat.
The fact that PSG continues to sail at home while working overseas is not good for Ligue 1, even though France’s other Champions League members, Monaco, Lille, and Brest, are all succeeding in Europe.
With the probable exception of 2016–17, the current vintage may be PSG’s poorest since the first season of the Qatari purchase in 2011–12.
This latter season came after Zlatan Ibrahimovic left and before Neymar and Mbappe arrived at the Parc des Princes.
Monaco won the championship that year, and they seem to be the most probable team to challenge PSG’s dominance this time around.
