In the middle of the Indian cricket team’s coaching job interview, where WV Raman and Gautam Gambhir’s names have surfaced, there’s also a question about support personnel. Some sources claim that Gambhir has requested complete discretion from the BCCI in selecting his own support personnel. Vikram Rathour is the batting coach, Paras Mhambrey is the bowling coach, and T Dilip is the fielding coach under head coach Rahul Dravid. Amidst all of this, former Pakistani great Kamran Akmal has conveyed a crucial message to BCCI and Gambhir.
“Foreign coaches are not required for Team India. They are talented and have lots of possibilities. Gautam Gambhir is the greatest and biggest player after David. He will make a fantastic coach in addition to becoming a major player. “He is the best option India has at the moment,” the Times of India cited Akmal as saying.
“Gambhir played for the LSG (Lucknow Super Giants). They performed admirably for him. He started mentoring KKR, and together they won championships. He has a sharp cricketing mind and is an incredible planner. We have played a great deal of cricket together. We’ve shared a great deal of time together. We spoke, ate, and played together. We haven’t lost contact,” he stated.
“He would be the ideal coach for Team India. The head coach ought to be him. Zaheer Khan or Ashish Nehra are two options for India’s bowling coach,” Kamran continued.
Even before he submitted his candidacy, Gambhir’s name was associated with the position. He was the “perfect candidate” to take over as head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 because of his abilities in that role.
According to RevSportz, the CAC, which was chosen by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to fill the position, asked Gambhir and another applicant, WV Raman, three crucial questions. They were:
- What do you think of the team’s coaching staff?
- How will you manage the transition period given that both the bowling and batting departments have a few aged players?
- What are your thoughts on the team’s inability to win ICC titles, fitness standards for managing workload, and split captaincy?
