The hosts defeated Queensland in their Sheffield Shield match at the MCG thanks to an incredible over from Victorian pacer Fergus O’Neill. Only Matt Renshaw and tail-ender Mark Steketee put up any fight for the Bulls on Friday as O’Neill and Mitchell Perry wrecked havoc, skittle Queensland for 172.
Campbell Kellaway and Jonathan Merlo are already back in the sheds, and on Saturday, the seasoned Victorian team of Marcus Harris and Peter Handscomb will return.

On Friday, Perry and O’Neill were the main attractions. Before O’Neill claimed 3 for 0 in six deliveries, Queensland had reached 16 without loss from eight overs.
When Bryce Street shouldered arms to a crazily swinging delivery, O’Neill began his spree by clean bowled him for two.
Three balls later, Jack Clayton became O’Neill’s third victim of the over after being clean bowled, and Angus Lovell was caught at second slip for a duck.
After witnessing the ball fly into the stumps from a great distance, Clayton, who shared Street’s shoulder-shouldered arms, remained at the crease for a few seconds in shock.
Steketee hammered several slick runs while Renshaw tried his best to calm the ship. O’Neill, however, remained unstoppable and continued to add Mitch Swepson and Jack Wildermuth to his list of victims.
In a first-class encounter, Perry was as impressive his route to his career-highest bowling numbers. Queensland collapsed to 5 for 56 as the 24-year-old claimed the crucial wickets of Ben McDermott and Jimmy Peirson in three balls. Later in the inning, Perry got rid of Renshaw.
