Former India top selector MSK Prasad advocates for including 21-year-old all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in the country’s ODI squad after he impressed Prasad with his performance with the bat and ball in the three Twenty20 Internationals and five Test matches played thus far. Next month, India will fly to Dubai to compete in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after playing England in a three-match ODI series.
Nitish has already taken advantage of his chances in Tests and T20Is, and MSK claims that his outstanding form and adaptability make him a serious candidate to join the ODI squad as well.
“Experts frequently describe ODIs as the ideal fusion of T20 cricket’s explosiveness and Test cricket’s tenacity.” In his brief but significant international career, Nitish has shown himself to be a unique blend of style and intensity, doing well in a variety of forms. Nitish has previously taken advantage of opportunities in T20s and Test matches, and his outstanding form and adaptability strongly support his inclusion in India’s forthcoming ODI team against England. Prasad is a strong candidate for a berth in the Champions Trophy team because of his dependability and capacity to step up when needed, the Times of India said.
“India has long praised cricket players who are versatile and perform well in a variety of forms, and Nitish is without a doubt one of these players. In addition to passing the test, he has established himself as a future pillar of Indian cricket with his achievements in Australia. He’s going to be a star,” he continued.
Reddy made his Test debut for India on November 22 against Australia in Perth. He participated in all five Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches, scoring 298 runs with one century and dismissing five batsmen.
Nitish showed brilliantly in Australia, according to Prasad, who was full of praise for Reddy’s blows in the series Down Under. Together with (opener) Yashasvi Jaiswal, he has demonstrated exceptional poise and competence in passing the acid test in Australia. In the face of one of the most formidable pace assaults in cricket history, which has claimed over 1,000 wickets, Nitish showed excellent technique and a remarkable patience, persevering through every obstacle. His performance was quite remarkable for someone who was traveling to Australia for the first time.
