All-rounder Mehidy Hasan will captain the 15-man ODIs team in place of regular captain Najmul Hossain for the forthcoming three-match series, which begins in St Kitts on December 8, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Monday.
The team management felt worried about Towhid Hridoy after he suffered a groin injury while playing football. Cricbuzz had previously reported that Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain were unlikely to participate in the ODIs since they were still healing from their individual ailments.

“All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement.
“Hridoy reported experiencing pain in his right groin area, and further examinations have shown that a medical issue is there.
The selectors re-assembled the ODIs team, including wicket-keeper Liton Das, Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib. The selectors had previously selected Parvez for the 2021 series against the West Indies, but he did not get to play.
Meanwhile, selectors left Mustafizur Rahman and Zakir Hasan off the series, along with the trio of Mushfiqur, Najmul, and Towhid. Zakir was fired due to his performance, even though Mustafizur asked for time off from the show to spend time with his wife, who is scheduled to give birth to their first child in December.
The BCB stated, “We have dropped fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was part of the team in last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE.”
