The Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has shockingly blacklisted three clubs, 24 players, and three club executives for allegedly manipulating matches in a recent state competition. The Mizoram Football Association has imposed three-year bans on three clubs—Sihphir Venghlun FC, FC Bethlehem, and Ramhlun Athletic FC—and three match officials for allegedly influencing the results of games in the Mizoram Premier League. Investigations with local law enforcement agencies revealed that certain clubs, officials, and players in the recently concluded MPL-11 engaged in acts of corruption, for which they have been penalised after careful deliberations,” the state football association said in a statement.
Two players received life bans, four players received five-year bans, ten football players received three-year bans, and eight persons engaged in the alleged corruption received one-year bans from the MFA.
“These activities involving a few miscreants represent a severe breach of our values, undermine the integrity of our sport and disrespect the fans who passionately support Mizoram Football,” stated the MFA.
“We have severely penalized those responsible as a result of these findings.
“We also assure stakeholders that clubs found to be complicit in these activities will face sanctions affecting their participation in future competitions, and players and officials implicated will be subject to suspensions and other disciplinary measures deemed appropriate by the MFA,” the statement read.
All three teams compete in the premier state league, and Sihphir placed in the top four before falling short against eventual champions Aizawl FC in the semi-final.
In an effort to rally the football community at this trying time, the MFA declared, “We call upon football fans, partners, and the broader football community to stand with us as we address this challenging chapter.” The organization emphasized its resolve to proceed with openness and honesty while acknowledging that the controversy would harm the league’s reputation.
