Manchester City faltered once again, and Nottingham Forest handed his team a second consecutive Premier League loss on Saturday, marking the end of Ruben Amorim’s honeymoon with Manchester United. Although storms on Merseyside postponed their match against Everton, leaders Liverpool maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the league. After a dismal start to the season, the club fired Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford and replaced him with Amorim last month. With two victories and a tie in his first three games, he got off to a strong start.
However, with a 2-0 Premier League loss to Arsenal in the middle of the week and a humiliating 3-2 loss to high-flying Forest on Saturday, who took advantage of United’s defensive errors, reality is beginning to bite hard.
United attacker Rasmus Hojlund canceled out Nikola Milenkovic’s early goal at Old Trafford, but Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White put the visitors ahead. Bruno Fernandes got one back, but Forest held the home team at bay.
Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs De Ligt, the goalie, all failed to save a looping header from Wood for the third goal, while Gibbs-White humiliated United’s Andre Onana with a swerving strike for Forest’s second.
With the victory, Forest moves up to fifth place in the Premier League standings. United is sluggishly occupying 13th place.
A disgruntled Amorim told the BBC, “It’s a tough game in a tough moment, but we have to continue the job.”
“The path ahead is lengthy. In certain areas, we are becoming better. To strengthen the squad, we must win games.
Manchester – “We pay close attention to every detail since we are at the beginning of something so significant. We must go on as we already know it’s a big job.
“I’m really proud of the way we work together, build things together, from the owner to everyone else in the club,” stated Nuno Espirito Santo, the manager of Forest.
“This is a time to rejoice. However, I’m personally considering (the game against) Aston Villa next week.”
