Despite the heartbreaking defeat to Manchester United that prolonged their losing run, Phil Foden maintains that the Manchester City players still have faith in Pep Guardiola. After Sunday’s heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola team has since dropped eight of their last 11 games across all competitions. United inflicted another damage to the Premier League leaders’ waning chances of winning a fifth consecutive title as City let up twice in the last minutes, unfazed by the type of dreadful defense that has become a common aspect of their spectacular collapse.

Fifth-place City has now lost five league games this season, compared to only three during the last top-flight campaign, and is now nine points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game left.
After the match, Guardiola declared that he is “not good enough” as his management crisis worsened.
However, City attacker Foden is certain that the Spaniard, who just inked a new two-year deal, will continue to have the backing of his struggling team.
“We are still nowhere near our level, but I still believe that we are playing good enough to get points and results,” he stated.
“We keep turning off at crucial moments, but it’s about staying concentrated for the entire ninety minutes. All we have to do is adjust our attention.
“After our prior successes, we remain together, reorganize, and have faith in ourselves.
“We keep believing in the process and the manager — I’m sure if we do that we will get back to winning ways and get back to our level.”
Prior to their Premier League trip to Aston Villa on Saturday, City is in dire need of a winning recipe.
After the derby loss, Foden said in the dressing room that he is perplexed by City’s incredible decline in popularity and the harm it has done to the team’s morale.
Foden remarked, “I can’t put a finger on what’s going on,”
“I felt that the performance was more than sufficient to win the game, but we ended up with no points, and it appears that this is still the case. All we need to do is stay united.
“The changing room is obviously going to be down and sad at the moment, but we can’t dwell on this too much.”
After beating Villa, Guardiola squad host Everton on December 26 before hosting Leicester in their last game of 2024.
Foden encouraged his teammates to remain together as the hectic holiday season approaches.
“It’s about keeping our mentality strong throughout the whole 90 minutes and we’re not doing that at the moment,” he stated.
“In order to recover from this, we must go again and demonstrate character.”
“This is not the time to complain; rather, it’s about standing together, being resilient, and moving forward. We’re definitely going to return.”
