The controversy surrounding Champions Trophy 2025 is far from over and no decision has been taken over the scheduling of the competition yet. India’s refusal to visit Pakistan because to security concerns sparked a heated discussion about the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) response. Although officials have not yet made a formal announcement, someone proposed a “hybrid” model that may see India play their matches in Dubai. The ICC scheduled a meeting for December, but they had to postpone it because of differences of opinion on how to proceed. The Champions Trophy may switch from the traditional ODI format to a T20 competition as a result of the postponement, according to Cricbuzz.
“If the stalemate persists, it is not improbable that certain stakeholders may revive calls to convert the Champions Trophy into a T20 format which is easier and faster to market than the ODIs which are fast losing their relevance,” said the study.
An experienced top cricket administrator here told PTI on Wednesday that the PCB will find it difficult to withdraw if the ICC and the BCCI do not fully approve the hybrid model.
“Pakistan has not only signed a host agreement with the ICC but like all other participating nations in the event, it has also signed a mandatory Members’ Participation Agreement (MPA) with the ICC,” said the administrator.
“A member country can only receive a portion of the money made from ICC events after it signs the MPA to participate in an ICC tournament.”
