Mahesh Bhupathi, a former tennis player for India, blasted the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) management after the team let up 287 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, the highest total in IPL history.
“I believe BCCI should force the sale of RCB to a new owner who will care to build a sports franchise the way most of the other teams have done so, for the sake of sport, the IPL, the fans, and even the players.” He wrote on his X account, “#tragic,” as the RCB was five wickets down in their chase of the massive score.
Earlier, Hyderabad scored an incredible 287 for three, shattering their own record for the highest IPL total. The only higher total in T20 cricket history is SRH’s, which comes in second only to Nepal’s 314/3 against Mongolia in 2023.
In a previous encounter, SRH thrashed 277/3 against Mumbai Indians, setting records for both the most sixes ever in a match and the greatest T20 aggregate.

Later, in Visakhapatnam, Kolkata Knight Riders almost beat Delhi Capitals with a scorching 272 for seven. Only the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Lucknow Super Giants have amassed more than 250 runs in the Indian Premier League.
After scoring 263 runs in Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India in 2013 off of Chris Gayle’s then-record 175 not out, RCB retained the mark for more than a decade.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis gave RCB a fantastic start on Monday, but they were unable to maintain it as they lost five wickets for a meager 127 runs.
