Only a few weeks after leaving Manchester United, Ruud van Nistelrooy was named manager of Leicester on Friday. The Dutchman, who had previously been Erik ten Hag’s assistant, departed United earlier this month following a brief stint as temporary manager. After just 12 Premier League games in charge, Leicester fired Steve Cooper on Sunday. The Foxes are now 16th in the standings and just one point above the relegation zone. “I’m thrilled and proud. In a club release, Van Nistelrooy remarked, “Everyone I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic.”

“The club has a remarkable recent history. I can’t wait to get started, meet everyone, and give the football team my best.”
In 2015–16, Leicester stunned everyone by winning the Premier League, and five years later, they won the FA Cup for the first time.
However, they were demoted from the first division two years ago, but under current Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, they recovered on their first try.
In his four games as United’s interim manager, Van Nistelrooy has won two of them against Leicester in the Premier League and League Cup.
The 48-year-old’s one year as PSV Eindhoven’s manager in 2022–2023 provided him with prior managing expertise.
Van Nistelrooy will be at the game, but he won’t start his job until Sunday, so Ben Dawson and his caretaker squad will be in charge of Saturday’s trip to Brentford.
Van Nistelrooy was a prolific goal scorer who had a fantastic playing career, mostly at PSV, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.
“Ruud’s experience, knowledge, and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us, and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our club,” stated Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha.
