Mbappe is set to buy a majority stake at Ligue 2 club SM Caen. Second-division team Caen’s principal owner will now be Kylian Mbappe, the captain of France, according to reports released by French media on Monday. Mbappe, 25, who left Paris Saint-Germain to join Real Madrid this summer, will pay American investors Oaktree 20 million euros ($21.6 million) to acquire an 80 percent share in the Normandy team.

This information was reported by the publication Le Parisien. Before deciding to sign with Monaco, the 2018 World Cup winner was on the verge of joining Caen as a youngster.
N’Golo Kante, Mbappe’s France teammate, and William Gallas, a former Les Bleus defender, are two of Caen’s past players. Last season, Caen finished sixth in Ligue 2.
Established in 1913, the two-time Ligue 2 winners will visit Paris FC on August 17 to kick off the new season.
