Matt Kuhnemann’s four-wicket haul helped Tasmania respond with the ball, but they still have a difficult battle to win the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at Bellerive Oval.
Jake Weatherald and Tim Ward were at the crease when the Tigers went to stumps on day three at 41 for 1, needing to chase 429 for win. Early in their run chase, Tasmania lost Nivethan Radhakrishnan when Nathan McAndrew bowled the opener.
The Tigers have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to win or even tie the game. With McAndrew, Liam Scott, and Henry Thornton each taking three wickets, South Australia dominated the match by dismissing Tasmania for 203 after reaching 398 for 6 declared in their opening innings.
As South Australia advanced to 117 for 0 and 211 for 3 in their second innings, Tasmania’s situation appeared even more bleak.
However, the Tigers’ assault came back strong, causing a 6 for 22 collapse before South Australia was declared at 233 for 9.
Before Tasmania really got going, Conor McInerney (75 off 73 balls), Henry Hunt (31 off 57), and Jason Sangha (61 off 92) had given South Australia a strong foundation.
With 4 for 67, Kuhnemann was the top destroyer and is aiming for a Test recall for the Sri Lankan visit.
As Scott and Jake Fraser-McGurk tried to heave Hunt for six, Kuhnemann bowled them out with a brilliant one-handed catch off his own bowling.
Paceman Gabe Bell was the only other Tiger to take multiple wickets, and Nathan McAndrew became his fourth victim.
