On Friday, Karun Nair led Vidarbha to an eight-wicket victory against Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, setting a global record for the most List A runs scored.
Nair surpassed the former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin, who had recorded a stretch of 527 runs without getting out in 2010, by hitting 112 and setting a new record of 542 runs without being dismissed. Joshua van Heerden (512), Fakhar Zaman (455), and Taufeeq Umar (422) are some well-known names on the list.
As he assisted Vidarbha in defeating UP’s 307 for 8 in just 47.2 overs, he scored his fourth century of the season and his third consecutive. On December 23, when he first hammered 112 off 108 balls against Jammu & Kashmir, Nair started his undefeated run. Against Chhattisgarh, he backed it up with an undefeated 44 in a brief chase. After helping Vidarbha chase down 316 in 48 overs with a season-high 168 not out against Chandigarh, he finished 2024 with another undefeated century, 111* against Tamil Nadu.
Yash Rathod also scored an undefeated 138 from 140 balls as Vidarbha finished at 313 for 2 on Friday. For the second wicket, he and Karun had an incredible 228-run partnership.
Vidarbha’s victory also allowed them to comfortably take the lead in Group D with 20 points from five games, ahead of third-place Tamil Nadu (14) and UP (14).
