In an Indian Super League (ISL) game on Saturday, East Bengal FC blanked Chennaiyin FC 2-0, recording their third straight clean sheet. Jeakson Singh (84th) and PV Vishnu (54th) both scored as East Bengal won the competition away from home for the first time this season. Due to the defeat, Chennaiyin FC has lost all four of their current season games. For the majority of the first half, Chennaiyin FC was in the lead. With Connor Shields playing a crucial part in generating opportunities and stretching the East Bengal defense in wide areas, they had the most of the possession.
The visitors expertly held their lines and absorbed pressure, leaving the Marina Machans with little to show for their masterful play. After losing control, Owen Coyle’s men promptly recycled it, but they were unable to break the impasse. Additionally, they were able to cut off Dimitrios Diamantakos’s midfield supply line, isolating him up front.
There were several opportunities for Shields and Daniel Chima Chukwu to score, but they were blocked by either Prabhshukhan Singh Gill or the East Bengal defense.
Laldinpuia Pachuau had Chennaiyin FC’s finest opportunity of the half when he sprang the highest from a Shields corner, but his header was weak and didn’t cause Gill any problems in goal.
Chennaiyin FC made sure they didn’t give the visitors many opportunities in the first half, even though they didn’t take advantage of their opportunities.
Five of the previous eight games between these two sides ended in a goalless draw at halftime, and this one was no exception.
Chennaiyin FC continued to dominate possession as the second half got underway. Despite having two opportunities, Farukh Chaudhury lacked the clinical skill to challenge Gill in goal.
Oscar Bruzon substituted Cleiton Silva for Diamantakos in the 49th minute to give the Red and Gold Brigade greater attacking flexibility.
East Bengal broke the tie in the 54th minute thanks to a goal from Vishnu, but the hosts were the first to flinch.
Mohammed Nawaz stopped his first attempt, but Vishnu was the first to respond to the rebound before Laldinliana Renthlei, and he tucked it home.
In order to add more flare up front, Coyle soon also looked to his reinforcements, bringing in Vincy Barretto and Wilmar Jordan Gil.
When Jeakson’s long-range stunner in the 84th minute nestled into the top left corner of the net to extend the advantage, the visitors’ persistent pressure finally paid off.
While Chennaiyin FC is still winless at home this season, East Bengal FC achieved their second victory of the year with the goal.
