An eye-witness said that fans badgered the likes of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant to hit sixes and passed comments on the fitness of another player. After supporters made “rude” remarks during the team’s training here before the second Test beginning on Friday, officials will no longer permit spectators to attend India’s practice sessions in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia. On Tuesday, officials allowed people to see the practice.
Because the practice facility stands in Adelaide are so near to the nets, hundreds of people flocked to watch the Indian team play live, while a small number came to watch Australia.
“It was total mayhem. Only about 70 people showed up for the Australian training session, whereas 3,000 people showed up for the India session. On condition of anonymity, a top BCCI official told PTI, “No one anticipated so many fans to turn up.”
Fans harassed players like Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant to smash sixes and make remarks about another player’s health, according to an eyewitness.
“There were so many people that Shubman Gill and Virat (Kohli) could have been mobbed. Just as the batter took stance, several were chatting loudly while conducting Facebook Live with pals,” he added.
“One fan insisted on saying ‘hello’ to a player consistently in Gujarati. Another cricket player was subjected to body shaming.
After the day-night Test match in Adelaide, there will be games in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
