According to Ravi Shastri, India “paid a heavy price for being a little complacent” against New Zealand, and in order to overcome their historic home defeat to New Zealand, the squad must perform well in the first two Test matches against Australia. India, who unexpectedly faced defeat by New Zealand, would suffer after the loss that interrupted their home winning streak of over 12 years and 18 series, according to former captain and coach Shastri.
“They suffered as a result of their little complacency. Having said that, the Indian team is a highly proud one. “They want to get back on track as soon as possible because they would be in pain. The greatest way to recover from a series like that is to begin another series well, which makes the first two Test matches essential moving forward,” he stated.
India’s coaching staff, led by head coach Gautam Gambhir, would need to make sure the players are in a “good state of mind” before the five-Test match begins at Optus Stadium here on November 22, according to Shastri.
“The most crucial thing is to make sure they get off to a strong start and maintain the players’ positive attitude. “That will be the coach’s top priority,” he stated.
Shastri, who led India to series victories in Australia in 2018–19 and 2020–21, encouraged the team to take heart from previous achievements.
“In terms of confidence, it’s on their mind. You can’t focus on the bad. Consider the bright side,” he said.
“Reflect on your previous performance in Australia and proceed accordingly. Move on from what (has) occurred. These conditions vary, and when you go into the Australian tracks, they’re arguably the finest for batting,” Shastri stated.
