The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are dealing with a serious injury problem as the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) draws up in just over a month and a half. Due to an ankle twist, their INR 23.75 crore purchase, Venkatesh Iyer, was forced to leave the field during Madhya Pradesh vs. Kerala’s Ranji Trophy match.

After Madhya Pradesh was reduced to 49/4 against Kerala, who decided to bowl first after winning the toss at Trivandrum, Iyer entered the game at number six in the 18th over. He only had to deal with three deliveries, though, when he left the field in obvious pain from a twisted ankle. The Madhya Pradesh physiotherapist and a few backup players helped him off the field.
Since they spent a lot of money on the 30-year-old during the auction, KKR is hopeful that the injury is not serious. At the IPL 2025 auction, Iyer was the third most expensive player, behind Shreyas Iyer (26.75 crore) and Rishabh Pant (27 crore).
The reigning champions made a serious effort to acquire the left-handed batter during the IPL 2025 auction after he played a key role in KKR’s success in 2024. With an average of 46.25 and a strike rate of 158.80, he amassed 370 runs and made a substantial contribution to multiple games with his aggressive middle-order batting.
Jiocinema is offering live streaming of the Kerala vs. Madhya Pradesh match. On the same platform, supporters may also watch live matches between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir, as well as between Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu.
