Nathan Lyon and R Ashwin are two of the top wicket-takers in Test cricket among active players.

Despite their intense rivalry on the pitch, the cricket world still has a great deal of respect for both Australia’s Nathan Lyon and India’s Ravichandran Ashwin. The story of Ashwin and Lyon pushing each other to reach new heights in the game’s longest format has been told in Time and Against. Lyon has once again thrown his hat in Ashwin’s direction, who has served as a sort of “coach” for him, ahead of the commencement of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 series in Perth.
Lyon said, “Ash is an incredible bowler,” to Fox Cricket. “I’ve learnt a lot from Ash since we’ve faced off against one other for almost my whole career.
“He’s taught me a lot,” Lyon acknowledged. “I really think that your best coaches are the guys you play against. To see if I can learn anything, I’ve viewed a lot of his film before leaving for India and how he does things here in Australia.”
Regarding his on-field achievements, Lyon declined to provide specifics, claiming that India’s Ravindra Jadeja may learn his trade secrets.
“I know Jadeja reads all of this stuff, so I can’t really share all my secrets.”
Lyon did, however, go right into the specifics, outlining the reasons behind his success in Australia. “Getting bounce and spinning up the back of the ball is my huge issue.
