With a 3-0 victory over Union Berlin at home on Saturday, Harry Kane scored twice and assisted on another goal as Bayern Munich increased their lead at the top of the German Bundesliga by three points. After Michael Olise was taken down by Benedict Hollerbach of Union on the edge of the box, the England captain gave Bayern the lead from the penalty spot fifteen minutes later. Shortly before halftime, Kane changed the game by putting the ball into Kingsley Coman’s path. The France striker then raced in past Union goalie Frederik Ronnow.
After 51 minutes, Kane completed his brace by excitedly reaching a loose ball just inches ahead of teammate Jamal Musiala.
Bayern has now scored 16 goals without giving up in their last four games against German opponents, despite suffering two straight Champions League defeats against Aston Villa and Barcelona.
“We’ve not started the Champions League well, so the pressure is on in every Champions League game now,” Kane stated.
“I think if we use the confidence that we’ve played the last few games with, we can cause any team a lot of problems.”
“There’s still a long way to go, but we’ve got the right mentality and the right attitude,” Kane stated to Sky.
“If we keep going like this, everything will be OK — we’re in good shape.”
Union, who currently sit sixth after needing a victory to avoid relegation on the penultimate day of play last season, told Sky that “we can live with it — Bayern were the favourites and have unbelievable quality.”
