Mohammed Siraj remark was in reference to Rohit’s viral one-liner that came during India’s home Test series against England earlier this year. Rain canceled the first day of the pink-ball practice match between the Prime Minister’s XI of Australia and India, forcing the second day to be a 46-overs-a-side encounter. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, chose to bowl after winning the toss. Sam Konstas was at the opposite end of the strike, and Matt Renshaw took it.
Renshaw immediately apologized to Siraj and indicated the location of the incident that had created the issue.
“Oh bhai garden mai ghoom raha hai kya (Brother are you roaming around a garden)?” a displeased Siraj remarked, turning to face the sight screen.
Despite captain Rohit Sharma keeping cards close to his breast by entering at No. 4 in India’s shortened pink-ball warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on Sunday, Shubman Gill shattered any reservations over his thumb injury with a brilliant fifty.
India won the 46-overs-a-side match by easily chasing down a target of 241 in 42.5 overs, but they continued to bat to the very end of the last over.
Sam Konstas, an Australian Test prospect, scored 107 from 97 balls, but it was in vain.
It’s interesting to note that Ravichandran Ashwin, who did not participate in the Perth Test, spotted Kohli in the nets while mostly bowling to him.
However, Ravindra Jadeja batted for a while and took a few overs.
Rohit dropped to number four and continued to use the opening pairing of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. He edged one to the slips under the lights, though, and restricted his own playing time to 11 deliveries.
For India, Gill’s batting was the most significant development.
Despite having almost no domestic experience facing the pink ball, Jaiswal (45 off 59 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (42 off 32 balls) swung their bats about and scored some runs.
With an outstanding Test debut in Perth and four wickets here to bolster his reputation as a wicket-taking bowler, Harshit Rana has already gained the team management’s trust.
