On the second day of their Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval, South Australia overcame an excruciatingly lengthy rain delay to score four late goals. Fraser, Henry Hunt, the SA opener, led the Redbacks to 329 for 3 by stumps in Hobart on Friday with an undefeated score of 136.
Fraser, However, due to prolonged weather, play didn’t start off again until after 3 p.m. AEDT on Saturday. Before declaring at 398 for 6, South Australia gained 69 runs in 12 overs.
On day two, with Nivethan Radhakrishnan (43), Jake Weatherald (12), Jordan Silk (18), and Tim Ward (7) already out of the game, Tasmania was in serious danger at 96 for 4.
If South Australia can swiftly go through Tasmania’s middle and lower order on Sunday, they will have the opportunity to enforce the follow-on with two days left.
Fraser, With opener Hunt and Jason Sangha (151) combining for a 300-run partnership, South Australia controlled the first day.
When play eventually started in the afternoon on day two, South Australia had to step up their game because of the protracted weather delay.
Jake Fraser-McGurk (43 off 37) and Jake Lehmann (24 not out off 25 balls) played like it was a one-dayer to add some valuable fast runs before the declaration, but Hunt was caught behind without adding to his overnight score.
After Tasmania reached a commanding 45 without losing, Weatherald sliced Liam Scott (2-19) off his stumps.
After Radhakrishnan was caught chasing a wide delivery, Tasmania was reduced to four wickets by two late punches from quick Nathan McAndrew (2–28). In the last over of the day, Silk was out and slipping behind.
