According to capology.com, the Brazilian earns a staggering £350,000 per week, making him United’s highest paid player at £18.2 million annually. Due to this and a dismal 2023–24 season by his standards, the club is eager to let him go despite his stellar resume.
Few teams are willing to challenge the 32-year-old Brazilian because many people think his “legs have gone.”
He is extremely difficult to relocate, as he has two years remaining on his enormous deal and is unlikely to consider any changes that would require a significant pay drop.
Saudi Arabia is the alternative that is most likely. The Saudi Pro League teams don’t mind spending money, and since Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro’s friend and former colleague, is spearheading the recruitment effort, the five-time Champions League champion may find the Middle East to be quite alluring.
As a result, there have been several stories of Saudi involvement, however it’s been said recently that they’ve lost interest.
However, Romano stated in his Daily Briefing this morning that “the story [of United’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte] remains important with Casemiro’s exit, but honestly guys, I can’t confirm anything regarding rumours that United are having trouble selling him.. no.”
“Saudi Arabia continues to be interested in Casemiro, but sometimes it just takes time to agree on contract, transfer fee, and other things.”
Given the significance of removing his salaries off the books, it seems doubtful that United will make this a sticking point in terms of a transfer price.
However, they would want some type of recompense should he depart because, according to transfermarkt.com, he is still a world-class player on his day and has a market worth of €20 million.
Time is one of the issues United has with this deal. The team will need to find a replacement for the midfield player if he leaves, but the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules restrict their spending power, so they could have to sell before they can purchase.
But since the SPL begins just one week after the Premier League, those interested in signing Casemiro will undoubtedly want to do it as quickly as possible to allow him to adjust before the season starts.
