Enzo Maresca, the coach of Chelsea, praised English football’s “beautiful” culture on Tuesday, claiming that the Premier League’s enthusiasm was unmatched in Europe. Last weekend’s ten Premier League games in England saw five of them conclude in stoppage time, including Brentford’s 4-3 victory over Ipswich and West Ham’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United, which was Erik ten Hag’s final game as Red Devils manager. Maresca, who avoided a spectacular finish to his team’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle, implied that English fans are unaware of their good fortune.
“It’s the reason why people are so in love with the Premier League,” the Italian stated. Since you’re from England, you’re unaware of how the Premier League is seen outside.
“The fact that the game never ends here is one of the causes. For example, in my nation, if you’ve been ahead 2-0 for the previous five minutes, you may have five or six players who fall for 20 seconds or 30 minutes. It’s challenging to return.
“The culture is different in England. It’s most likely the cause of its beauty.
“May and June come to mind when you start thinking about the top four or top six. It’s too far for me.
Wesley Fofana, who landed awkwardly on his knee during the first half of Sunday’s League Cup encounter against Newcastle, is eligible for Wednesday’s rematch at St James’ Park, where Maresca has a completely healthy team.
The defender has shown promise this season after missing the whole previous campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
“He had a bad moment in the first half, but he’s a fighter,” Maresca stated. “He toyed with suffering. It’s difficult to return and be a warrior after a year away, which is why I like Wes.
