When East Bengal plays Odisha FC in the Indian Super League here on Thursday, they will be hoping to maintain their momentum after going three games without losing. East Bengal won two games in a row, but the Juggernauts, who beat the Kolkata-based team 2-1 earlier this season, will be a formidable opponent. With 16 points from 11 games, the Juggernauts are ranked fifth in the standings. With seven points from nine games, East Bengal FC has been improving recently.
The Red & Gold Brigade, led by coach Oscar Bruzon, seem to have turned the corner after suffering seven losses in their first eight games. A victory on Thursday would be East Bengal FC’s first three-game winning run in the ISL.
They have not had a longer run since December 2023, when they drew goallessly with Odisha FC.
Conversely, Odisha has the most effective offensive in the league this year, scoring a goal per forty-three minutes. They have scored 23 goals so far, which is the most they have ever achieved after 11 games in any season.
With seven and four goals, respectively, Diego Mauricio and Mourtada Fall are at the top of the standings.
Odisha’s defense stood strong in their most recent road encounter, defeating Hyderabad FC 6-0, after giving up in six consecutive away games.
East Bengal FC has only won once in their nine games thus far, whereas Odisha FC has won seven of them.
Oscar Bruzon, the head coach of East Bengal, praised his team’s impressive run of play but insisted that they still had a lot of work to do to meet their season goals.
