In 2010, an eleven-year-old kid gets out of bed at midnight and eagerly turns on the television to see Spain win the FIFA World Cup by defeating the Netherlands 1-0. The child witnessed Germany defeat Argentina in the summit match and win the title of World Champions four years later. Years have gone by, yet this lovely pattern of commemorating this quadrennial event is still going strong. The child constantly regrets not being able to watch his own India compete in the world’s largest athletic event, though.
Given its enormous popularity, it wouldn’t be incorrect to state that men’s cricket currently dominates the Indian sports department. Millions of Indian hearts, meanwhile, still throb for football. The first thing that comes to mind while considering India involvement in the FIFA World Cup is the amount of money that will be invested at the grassroots level.
Regarding the grassroots level, Hindustan Zinc Limited is striving tirelessly to make Udaipur, Rajasthan, a new center of India football.
“Desh ka sapna, goal hai apna (Country’s dream is our goal)”In keeping with this slogan, Hindustan Zinc Limited has established the Zinc Football Academy in Zawar, which is 40 kilometers from Udaipur.
Zinc Football was founded in 2017 and is a part of the Vedanta Zinc Football & Sports Foundation, a social project of Hindustan Zinc. It uses a student-athlete paradigm and places a strong focus on giving kids the chance to participate in a lot of competitive games so they can get enough competition experience and eventually represent their state or country.
