Nicole Bolton revealed that she had a conversation with Australia’s legendary bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick, her former head coach, and she felt that her career would be “short-lived” after comparing her strike-rate to Mithali Raj.
Nicole Bolton, a former batter for Australia’s women’s team, talked about how she felt her “career would be short-lived” when a former head coach brutally compared her style to India batting star Mithali Raj.
The 35-year-old Bolton, who played 55 international matches for her country, shared an interview she conducted in the early days of her List A cricket career with Victoria with former Australia spinner Cathryn Fitzpatrick. Before moving to Victoria in 2015, Bolton had an outstanding List A debut with Western Australia in 2014.
In addition to her impressive century on her Victoria debut, the left-hander smashed 35 in 68 balls and 43 off 69 deliveries. Fitzpatrick, the former head coach of Bolton and a 240-wicket international veteran,
‘Why can’t you be like Lanning or Villani?’
“I was simply trying to get her to see me for a very long time. I suddenly remembered that she invited me to talk with her at her office. “Do you really want to be the Mithali Raj of the Australia Cricket Team?” she said. And I said to myself, “Mithali Raj?” “Yeah, do you honestly want to strike at 50?” she said. If you score 100 off 150 balls and the team still loses, is that acceptable? And I thought, “Whoah!” Cathryn Fitzpatrick sees me like this. That is definitely not good. In an episode of Stories After Stumps, Bolton stated, “My career is going to be pretty short-lived if this is how she sees me.”
Fitzpatrick made an almost immediate impression on Bolton, smashing 170 off 156 balls in her subsequent match, including 24 boundaries.
The news of Bolton has sparked discussion among Indian supporters. As the first female player to reach the milestone of 10,000 international runs across all forms, Mithali is regarded as one of the finest female cricket players. In 155 ODIs, Mithali led India in scoring 7,805 runs over 232 matches, including seven hundreds and 64 fifty-scores.
