Something exists between Dinesh Karthik and comebacks. He is never completely absent from the picture, particularly when a major competition—in this case, the T20 World Cup—is approaching. Although he has previously stated that the 2024 Indian Premier League will be his final season in the league, is there anything preventing him from playing in the T20 World Cup in June of this year under the Indian jersey? His performance in the 17th Indian Premier League is most definitely not.
In an IPL 2024 encounter at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karthik produced another incredible innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, days after India skipper Rohit Sharma made fun of him on the stump mic for playing in another T20 World Cup.
“DK, shake it off. (Well done, DK! His goal is to qualify for the T20 World Cup. “His thoughts are focused on the World Cup,” Rohit was overheard stating on the stump mic on April 11 during the MI vs. RCB game in Wankhede. That evening, Karthik had amassed 53 runs off of 23 balls without losing, with five fours and four sixes hit. While it wasn’t enough to guarantee an RCB victory, it did prompt discussion on social media regarding his selection as a keeper and finisher for India’s T20 World Cup team.

It is difficult to say for sure if Karthik responded to Rohit’s teasing. If he did, it was lost on the stump mics. We would like to think that he let his bat do all the talking just for show. And on Monday, it persisted in talking against SRH in the most captivating manner imaginable.
Captain Faf du Plessis (62 off 28) was dismissed by RCB for 121 in 9.3 overs while they were chasing an IPL record 288 runs to win. With six wickets remaining, they still needed 167 runs in just 63 balls. In the same over, young Saurav Chauhan was out first ball. The RCB had virtually given up. They might potentially lose the game by more than a hundred runs.

Let’s get DK started! Once more!
After hitting his first boundary, a six off leg-spinner Mayank Markande, with nine balls, he went into overdrive. Jaydev Unadkat’s next over saw three fours and a six from Karthik. The assault went on. It actually became better and bigger. In the next over, Karthik struck the longest six of IPL 2024, a 108-meter shot off T Natarajan. Karthik nearly launched the ball out of the stadium during a half volley on the pads with his gorgeous wrists.
Pat Cummins, the captain of SRH, was also not exempt. In the 17th over, he was struck for two sixes. Another incredible switch shot for six was made by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
In the penultimate ball of the 19th over, Natarajan finally got rid of Karthik. A standing ovation greeted him as he walked back. Even though his 35-ball, 83-run effort did not help RCB make history, it did propel them to their second-highest IPL total and their biggest while pursuing. RCB was 20 runs shy of SRH’s record.
