In the league stage encounter against Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Dinesh Karthik made his SA20 debut for Paarl Royals. Karthik, who has played in 401 Twenty20 matches, is being captained by David Miller. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape, led by skipper Aiden Markram, have won both of the SA20 tournaments thus far.

Being the first Indian player to participate in the SA20, Karthik made history as soon as he was added to the starting lineup. A player from India must have retired from both domestic and Indian Premier League cricket in order to participate in international T20 competitions.
After the 2024 Indian Premier League, Karthik resigned from cricket and is now eligible to play in any international league. Karthik is the first Indian to participate in the SA20, and many Indian cricket players who have left the sport have played in other competitions.
Due to his switch to SA20, Dinesh is now unable to play in the Indian Premier League or domestic cricket. A player who has participated in a foreign league is prohibited from returning to Indian cricket per the BCCI’s regulations.
