CEO of the Chennai Super Kings Kasi Viswanathan expressed his “extreme optimism” that former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will participate in the 2025 Indian Premier League. Before the current season began, Dhoni, who captained CSK to a record five Indian Premier League titles, gave up his position as captain. Ruturaj Gaikwad took over, and the club finished in fifth place. There have been many rumors that this may be Dhoni’s last season in the competition, but Viswanathan insisted that the former captain of India will ultimately decide what to do with his career.

“I’m not sure. Only MS is qualified to respond to that question. To be honest, we have always respected Microsoft’s judgments. He responded to a query on CSK’s YouTube page by saying, “We have left it to him.”
“He has always made his decisions and made them known when it was appropriate, as all of you are aware. We certainly anticipate hearing from him as soon as he makes a choice.
However, we have high hopes that he will be available for CSK in the upcoming year. That’s what I think and what the people demand.”
This season, Dhoni, who underwent surgery to address a knee problem last year, has amassed 161 runs in 73 balls with a strike rate of 220.55. Behind the stumps, too, he was rather good.
Later in the year, there will be a massive IPL auction, and if Dhoni plays well, CSK will definitely keep him.
Clarity is still needed on the maximum number of players that may be kept, though.
According to Viswanathan, talks with the BCCI over the matter have not yet taken place.
“It is premature as we have yet to get information from BCCI on the kind of retentions that would be included in the upcoming auction cycle.
“So we are expecting that the BCCI would discuss with all franchise owners before they take a decision on retention.”
