The’masala’ for the trolls ended when Virat Kohli and former teammate Gautam Gambhir hugged warmly. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) of 2024, Kohli and Gambhir displayed a friendly demeanor despite their past disagreements. Although Gambhir went back “home” to become the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) coach, he also continued to be the face of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), helping the team win its first championship.
Shreyas Iyer’s KKR won the IPL championship for the third time under Gambhir’s guidance. They crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the one-sided championship match to take home the coveted trophy in the home of the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Gambhir emerged as a strong contender to lead the Indian squad as head coach after an IPL title run. After the ICC T20 World Cup, the former captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders is picked to succeed Rahul Dravid as India’s next head coach.
As the season that won the title came to an end, Gambhir chose to focus on two moments from the IPL 2024: the record-breaking opening partnership between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, and the scorching spell of Mayank Yadav. The former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders praised the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for winning six straight games to advance to the playoffs, and he also talked about his relationship with team captain Virat Kohli.
“Reality and perception are very different. Nothing about my relationship with Virat Kohli is necessary for this country to know. He and I both have the right to express ourselves and support the success of our respective teams. Our relationship isn’t meant to serve the public masala,” Gambhir stated to Sportskeeda. In addition, Gambhir saved the best praise for Kohli, complimenting the former RCB captain’s six-hitting ability.
“People are really disappointed in me for how I behaved.”
The RCB opener had already remembered his IPL 2024 headline performance with Gambhir. “People are really dissatisfied with my actions. After I embraced Naveen, Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) came to hug me the other day. You’re booing because your masala is over. “We’re not children anymore,” Kohli said at an Asian Paints event. With 741 runs in 15 games, Kohli led the IPL 2024 batting stats. This season, the former captain of India took home the esteemed Orange Cap. The next time we see Kohli is in the T20 World Cup.
