Gerald Coetzee, a fast bowler for South Africa, received a demerit point and 50% of his match money after officials determined that he displayed disobedience during Friday’s fourth Twenty20 International match against India in Johannesburg.
After the umpire declared one of his deliveries a wide in the 15th over of India’s innings, observers noted that Coetzee made an improper remark to the umpire. He acknowledged the offense and agreed to the penalty, which included a formal censure. The series had been won 3-1 by India.
Both Oman seamer Sufyan Mehmood and Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards violated the ICC code of conduct during Saturday’s third Twenty20 International between the two sides at Al Amerat and received sanctions as a result.
After the umpire declared him out lbw, he presented his bat. Coetzee then threw his bat and gloves on the field on his way back to the dugout, earning a total of two penalty points.
In addition, Mehmood received one demerit point and a 10% fine for sending out Netherlands batsman Teja Nidamanuru. There was no need for a formal hearing because both players acknowledged their transgressions and agreed to the penalties suggested by match referee Neeyamur Rashid.
Netherlands went on to win the series 2-1.
