In his first job as the new England Lions head coach, Andrew Flintoff will manage a 19-man team in South Africa the following month.
A number of talented players will have the chance to mimic the senior men’s squad’s training regimen as they prepare for a Test series in New Zealand from November 20 to December 14. The tour consists of a training camp and a four-day unofficial Test match against South Africa A in Western Province.
He played his sole Test to date against Sri Lanka at the Kia Oval last month.
Along with Pat Brown, the Derbyshire and former Worcestershire seamer who played his final four Twenty20 international matches in 2019, Dan Mousley and Dillon Pennington are the other two players with previous experience in the senior men’s setup.
We have chosen a group of players that includes both experienced performers who have thrived in the domestic game while playing for England and some of the most intriguing fresh talent on the rise.
“The camp will support and accelerate the players’ development, provide insight into various aspects of the international setup and aid their transition into future performance set-ups” .
“Selection aligns with England’s short and long-term needs across all formats,” said Ed Barney, director of performance for England Men, “and we will continue to support a group of exciting pace bowlers.” Seafarers make up more than half of the team, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to helping these athletes reach their full potential.
“We are also excited about the competitive match opportunities, with a four-day fixture against South Africa A offering the opportunity for the squad to enjoy putting their skills on show against strong opposition.”
